Marybeth Lemak recalls childhood visits.

When I was a young girl my Aunt Mary, who was Katie’s Grandma, sued to come and visit her mom- my Grandma who just happened to live upstairs in our house. She would come 3 or 4 times a year and she would bring her granddaughter- Katie. They would always come into Pittsburgh on the Greyhound Bus and my Dad and I would go pick them up. Now I was 6 years older than Katie so I got to play with her and also baby-sit her. I remember walking up to the library one day and on the way home- with our baby dolls in hand going down Lee St. to turn on Ridge Street. The house on the corner had a stone wall with jagged edges. Katie was ahead of me (and my doll buggy) and she was walking on the wall and slipped. I’ll never forget the big gash she got down the back of her leg. I was horrified but managed to get her home and bandage her wounds. Needless to say when we went for a walk again Katie was by my side and held my hand. Now it’s your turn Katie to be our guardian angel and always be by our side especially of the ones you loved and hold dear. May you rest in peace.
